Short description: Greg G – DJ is a San Francisco Bay Area wedding DJ who specializes in indie rock music, but plays good, danceable music that keeps fans of all genres dancing. Now the longer version…

Greg G has been involved with music in many capacities throughout his life. Even his first paying job, at the age of 14, came when he was paid $50 to perform as a DJ. It was a natural fit for him and he continued to DJ whenever he could. Initially playing house parties and school dances, quickly graduating to night clubs and eventually expanded into weddings and corporate affairs. Additionally, Greg been in a few bands throughout my life. In high school he sang and played guitar in a punk band. At the same time he was a DJ in a rap band, and a rapper in a yet another band.

Much of the pop music that he enjoys is typically classified as indie music. His first foray into the realm of music-other-than-what-he’d-heard-on-pop-radio came when he discovered David Bowie. Not long afterwards he learned of Joy Division, by then reincarnated as New Order, which led him to The Smiths. He realizes that in today’s musical climate the idea of a kid who is DJ’ing in a rap crew considering The Smiths his favorite band makes little sense, but at the time it wasn’t that paradoxical. Rap at that point was as indie as it got, and it wasn’t unusual to hear Depeche Mode at a rap party, or Doug E. Fresh at a gathering of mods.

He is a big fan of concerts and shows, and see bands play live fairly often. His favorite live musical experience, however, is the opera.  Far from an expert in the genre and is only able to attend an opera perhaps once or twice each year, but it is an experience he never tire of having. The same goes for jazz. I love it, but don’t know its intricate nuances. I do know that I especially enjoy Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and all of the great big bands from the ’30s and ’40s, as well as Miles Davis, Art Blakey, and Erroll Garner.

Greg’s all-time favorite bands and singers of life:

Joy Division, The Smiths, Belle & Sebastian, Pulp, Suede, Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Camera Obscura, Biggie Smalls, Run-D.M.C., Franz Ferdinand, Ratatat, Bauhaus, The Pixies, Beastie Boys, David Bowie, Richard Hawley, Can, Kraftwerk, The Knife, Hot Chip, MGMT, The Aislers Set, Radiohead, and The White Stripes.
